A courthouse ballroom is not a one-room sound plan

Gwinnett County lists the Historic Courthouse in downtown Lawrenceville as a wedding and event venue. Its upper-level Superior Court Ballroom has a hardwood dance floor and sound system, with a pre-function area nearby. The grounds also include a gazebo with electrical outlets. These are useful starting points for a venue tour, not proof that one sound system will cover your entire wedding.

If you plan vows outside and dinner upstairs, ask which equipment serves each space, who operates the built-in system and whether an outside DJ can connect to it. Confirm loading access and accessible guest movement between levels. A microphone available in the ballroom does not automatically cover an outdoor officiant or musicians. Share the ceremony location and rain backup before deciding how many setups to book.

Design the reception around connection

Our recommendation is to keep the DJ close to the ballroom dance floor with a clear view of entrances and speech handoffs. Review the floor plan before assigning tables. Place speakers for even coverage and leave quieter seating options for guests sensitive to volume. Reflective surfaces and a high ceiling deserve a sound check, not simply louder speakers.

Keep your photo booth in the reception's natural guest flow, with its backdrop and queue clear of service routes and exits. An audio guest book needs a quieter recording spot away from speakers. Lighting can complement the room; fog, cold sparks and other effects require specific venue approval.

Lawrenceville planning questions

Does the courthouse sound system replace a DJ? Equipment and a host do different jobs. Ask what connections and staff are included. We then plan music, MC cues, microphones and additional coverage around what is actually available.

Is an intimate ceremony package the same as a full reception rental? Gwinnett County advertises different rental options. Confirm booked rooms, guest capacity, access time and event duration with the venue before choosing entertainment hours.

What if ceremony and reception have different addresses? Send both locations and the timing. We will review sound coverage, travel and setup access; do not plan on moving the reception system while guests wait.
